Participatory design processes can be used to involve children and young people in the creation of software, websites, games and other kinds of digital media. A blend of offline and online methods can be used for an iterative process of consultation, design and evaluation.
If done well, participatory design can result in a final product that is tailored the needs of children and young people. It can also provide opportunities for children to learn digital media skills, and for adults to learn about how children understand and use digital media.
