There are a few general ‘rules of thumb’ that you can follow to help deal with the technicalities of digital media research.
- Keep things simple. Some projects will inevitably be technically complex, but it’s always worth trying to simplify and reduce complications where possible.
- Familiarise yourself with the technology before you need to use it for your research.
- Expect things not to work first time. If they do work, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Troubleshooting, fixing and maintaining technologies is part of working with digital media.
